Before i created my practice film trailer i first had to learn how to use garageband and this is what i created as my practice to learn how to use the programme.
Blog Task 6- Trailer
Film Trailer by user765293524
Whilst making this film trailer me and my group learned how to use garageband to create our trailer, we also learned how to loop instruments to create new sounds and overlap them to fit with the music and genre of the film. We also learned how to record our voices so we could narrate over the film trailer. I also learned how to save the finished product and saved it to soundcloud.
Blog Task 5- Rotten Tomatoes Review
Across The Hall follows a tense standoff between a young man, his best friend and an unfaithful fiancĂ©e, the story is fast paced not leaving any time for the audience to be bored and leaving them on the edge of their seats throughout this tense thriller. After following his wife to a run-down hotel on the other side of town, Terry rents a room across the hall. He calls his best friend Julian holding a bottle of whiskey and a gun, hoping he can diffuse the situation Julian pleads Terry to stay calm and not to do anything he will regret until he gets to him. A brilliant story with twists and turns that will leave the audience speechless, starring Adrian Grenier, James Oliver, Natalie Smyka and Jamie Benge. – Cori Clarkson

Across The Hall - Genre Task
Across the hall would be under the genre of a thriller film, this is because it has typical conventions that make a good thriller movie, this consists of the certain props that are used for example a gun and the neon lights from the TV that I the only light in the room so it makes it more the setting more tense and the room is dark, also the lights in the hotel is dim therefore creating a tense feeling for the audience. Another convention that makes the film a thriller is that there is a twist in the story, which creates a dangerous situation for one of the main characters and puts the audience at edge. ‘There is no rigid rules of inclusion and exclusion’ to make a thriller film, there are a lot of lisable items that come together to create a film.
Another reason why the audience can tell that the movie is a typical thriller film is the use of the fake sweat that is put on the actors, this creates tension for the audience because we feel scared for the characters and we also feel a sense of panic. From the sweat we expect an action packed scene with fights and guns.
Another convention for a thriller movie is the fast paced music and sound effects that create a sense of excitement and surprise to the audience, which is what ‘Across The Hall’ has got.

Short Film
I had to create a short film for my first media project. I used a match on action shot and a reverse shot. This is just a practice.
Thursday, 21 June 2012
I am Cori Clarkson, i am a media student and i am currently studying short films. My task is to research short films and then eventually produce my own short film which will be over 5 minutes in length.
However at this moment before I create my final short film I am creating a practice short film of only 30 seconds, the camera shots that I can use is a match-on-action shot, a shot-reverse-shot or either a graphic match or a cross-cut. I have a choice of genre that I want to base my short film around; these are western, horror/ science fiction, film noir or romantic comedy, also whilst filming we are not permitted to move the camera or use zoom lens, the purpose of this practice task is to develop my editing awareness and skill, I also have 2 weeks to complete this task.
From my research I have found out that short films should be normally between 3-10 minutes long, many films that have won awards gain them funding and an opportunity to further their in the film industry.
There are many types of different genres in shorts films for example in the short film coming of age it is focused on drama, it also has a tiny cast of only four people, it was made with a budget of £150.
Another film i have looked at is nightwalking which is comedy but the audience whilst watching the film may think that it is a horror, the film is 3 minutes long and has a cast of two people.
By researching these films I have learnt that in short films the cast is normally about 4 people or less, also the budgets to these are films are very low.
