I am Cori Clarkson, i am a media student and i am currently studying short films. My task is to research short films and then eventually produce my own short film which will be over 5 minutes in length.
However at this moment before I create my final short film I am creating a practice short film of only 30 seconds, the camera shots that I can use is a match-on-action shot, a shot-reverse-shot or either a graphic match or a cross-cut. I have a choice of genre that I want to base my short film around; these are western, horror/ science fiction, film noir or romantic comedy, also whilst filming we are not permitted to move the camera or use zoom lens, the purpose of this practice task is to develop my editing awareness and skill, I also have 2 weeks to complete this task.
From my research I have found out that short films should be normally between 3-10 minutes long, many films that have won awards gain them funding and an opportunity to further their in the film industry.
There are many types of different genres in shorts films for example in the short film coming of age it is focused on drama, it also has a tiny cast of only four people, it was made with a budget of £150.
Another film i have looked at is nightwalking which is comedy but the audience whilst watching the film may think that it is a horror, the film is 3 minutes long and has a cast of two people.
By researching these films I have learnt that in short films the cast is normally about 4 people or less, also the budgets to these are films are very low.
